This plaza is dedicated to the memory of Carl Schaefer Dentzel (1913-1950), Northridge pioneer and Chamber of Commerce president; director of the Southwest Museum for 25 years; and founding member of Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Board. It was Dentzel who first proposed the name Northridge inspired by the Southern Pacifics route along the footsteps of the valley's northern ridge, or Cordillera del Norte.
