This plaza is dedicated to the memory of Carl Schaefer Dentzel (1913-1950), Northridge pioneer and Chamber of Commerce president; director of the Southwest Museum for 25 years; and founding member of Los Angeles’ Cultural Heritage Board. It was Dentzel who first proposed the name Northridge — inspired by the Southern Pacific’s route along the footsteps of the valley's northern ridge, or Cordillera del Norte.
