Inscription. "Passing out of the canyon we went up [Edwards Creek] Valley between two ranges of mountains ... to Cold Springs where we ... prepared for crossing the sixty mile desert by cutting grass and fillings our kegs with water" - Lumin A. Scott, Aug 29, 1859
