1. The Trapper Cottage Marker
Inscription. One of the few French Creole buildings left in Soulard, this cottage is not aligned with the surrounding streets and buildings - it pre-dates them. The stone and brick masonry foundation with stand-alone center chimney was built into the pre-urban hillside. The second story, constructed in the "briquette-entre-poteaux" method (brick between poles) and originally covered in stucco, was topped with 4" lap siding due to harsh St. Louis winters. Its long & storied past includes housing the Allen Social Club, a speakeasy or "lid lifting club".

Erected 2019 by Soulard Historic District.
