St. Vincent de Paul Parish. Parish included a church, convent, rectory and school. Original church cornerstone laid in 1878 at present site. D.X. Murphy designed the larger Gothic Church begun in 1886. Expanded by Fred Erhart in 1927. Parish closed in the 1990s. Restored church served as a catalyst for Shelby Park neighborhood revitalization.

D.X. Murphy (1853-1933). Celebrated Louisville architect D.X. (Dennis Xavier) Murphy served as draftsman for Henry Whitestone starting in 1874. In 1881, Murphy continued firm under his name after Whitestone retired. Firm designed iconic twin spires at Churchill Downs, jails, hospitals, schools, homes and businesses. Buried in St. Louis Cemetery.
