Regarding Coronel José María Pérez. On November 8, 1866, José María Pérez and a small group of Republicans attacked the French garrison near Pachuca. Pérez set fire to the garrison's outpost and killed most of the soldiers there. The place is now known as "Casas Quemadas" (Burnt Houses).
