Manetta Residence
Manuel “Fess” Manetta (1889-1969), pianist, violinist, trombonist, trumpeter, saxophonist, and teacher, lived here at 331 Alix Street from 1913 until 1923. He played in bands with Buddy Bolden, Frank Duson, Edward Clem, Tom Albert, Papa Celestin, Joe Howard, and Manuel Perez, and was a solo pianist in Willie Piazza's on Basin Street. He was a well respected teacher, and could play trumpet and trombone at the same time.
