Inscription.  The 34-star United States Flag was in the possession of the Federals. West Virginia became the 35th state of the Union on June 20, 1863.

Made possible by the estate of Dr. Hu C. Myers, a bequest to the Kiwanis Club of Philippl. These flags are authentic replicas of the flags flying over Philippi on June 3, 1861. During the first land battle of the Civil War.
