USS San Jose (AFS-7)Anchors. The USS San Jose was a Mars-class combat stores ship acquired by the U.S. Navy in 1970. She served as a navy ship until November 1993 and was involved in the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. She was then transferred to the Military Sealift Command (MSC) and was redesignated USNS San Jose (T-AFS 7). As an MSC vessel, San Jose was involved in the INTERFET peacekeeping taskforce, the response to the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, as well as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The ship was then deactivated in 2010.
The ship was honored with three battle stars for service during the conflict: Consolidation I, Consolidation II, and Vietnam Ceasefire.
BOFORS TWIN 40mm Anti-Aircraft Gun . The first twin Bofors was produced in January of 1942. Bofors guns soon began appearing fleet-wide, through not until mid-1944 was demand satisfied. Each of the twin 40mm's fired 120-160 rounds-per-minute, per barrel with an approximate effective range of 4,000 yards. The guns were manned by seven men with ammunition passers added to the crew as required. The crew consisted of a gun captain, pointer, trainer, two first loaders and two second loaders. The origin of these guns is unknown.
