1. War of 1812 Marker
Inscription. The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and the British Empire. It was an indirect result of the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, as well as British support of Native American hostilities against U. S. expansion. Fought across three theaters in North America Atlantic, Great Lakes and Southern, the war witnessed the burning of Washington D.C. by British forces, and major victories by the Americans in the western territories. The treaty of Ghent December 24, 1814 reconciled both sides, and ushered in an era of peaceful relations between the United States and Great Britain.
