Inscription.
Modeled after the late eighteenth century Hotel Labottiere in Bordeaux, this mansion was designed by the firm of Horace Trumbauer for James B. Duke and completed in 1912. In 1958 it was presented by Mrs. James B. Duke and Miss Doris Duke to the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
