Marketing Petroleum
Pheidippides' 31-year run ended in 1962 in favor of a new logo and more modern marketing image, close to the same time that Ohio Oil became Marathon Oil Company.
Marathon station designs varied widely as they evolved over the years. The technology also evolved with the times, from gravity fed pumps to modern dispensers featuring video and pay-at-the-pump capabilities. Full-serve stations evolved to self-serve, and stations remodeled their service bays into convenience stores starting in the 198Os.
While the consumer associates
marketing with Marathon's retail
presence on the street, marketing
is much more than a retail network.
MPC's wholesale and retail
marketing organizations include
a variety of fuels, petrochemicals
and other specialty products, and
asphalt, supporting a wide array
of retail, industrial and
commercial operations.
Erected by Marathon Petroleum Company.
