Inscription. The Methodist Episcopal Church, as it was known at that time, was established on August 18, 1916. The Sewanee Fuel & Iron Company conveyed one acre of land to the church. Dedicated in the spring of 1917, the church's original founders included W. M. Creighton. I. S. Brown, A. R. Curtis, W. R. Bouldin, J. W. Dykes, and C. W. Anderson. The Reverend L. E. Thornton served as the congregation's first pastor. Over time, minor changes and additions have taken place and people are proud to worship at Coalmont's oldest church.
