Inscription. Built in 1868, this federal style building has catered to guests for over 150 years. EF Rippstien operated the US Hotel across the street. Wishing to build a larger hotel, construction began in 1866 and by 1868 the "Grandest Hotel along the line" came into existence. The Hotel operated a Saloon on its first floor, "The First and Last Stop Saloon" serving guests from horse drawn wagons, to steamboats to trains and eventually automobiles. The Hotel has been meticulously restored to October of 1886, and is one of the last remaining post civil war hotels that is restored to its original victorian glory.
