Inscription. Bridgewater Township was named by George Howe after his home in Oneida County, New York. This site has been the center of community activities since founding of the township in 1832. The first town hall was built here in 1856. It was later razed and a new hall built in 1882 on the original foundations. Sharing this site is a township cemetery with graves dating back to the 1830's. The Bridgewater Center School, one of nine school districts in the township at the time, also shared the site.
