a thoughtful renovation. This Victorian-era blend of vernacular and popular building traditions still retains many original features, including a bracketed bay window and brackets at the eaves. The original spindled bargeboard in the gable of the front ell on the north end of the house has been replaced with a less elaborate interpretation. The house has a distinctive front door transom and sidelights, as well as a front porch with a spindle work frieze. Similar ornamentation appears to have been removed from the house at 414 South East Street. A house appears in this location on the 1902 Sanborn map, but this house is believed to have taken its current form in 1910. Evidence uncovered by the current owners indicates that the existing house may encapsulate portions of an earlier house on this site.
