House is a central-front gabled house that retains two of the three original bays of its full front porch; a portion has been enclosed. The house retains its simple turned porch posts, brackets, and frieze work; the house also has a corbelled brick chimney cap and brackets under the box cornice. Culpeper dry goods merchant William J. Shotwell was the original owner of this ca-1870-1880 house; the family also operated a flower shop from this home, which accounts for the separate entrance and configuration of the south projection.
