Inscription.
On May 14th, 1864, at 5:30 a.m., the regiment moved with the brigade to a reserve position behind the 20th Corps during the heavy fighting on the west side of the battlefield. At 4:00 p.m., moved with the division at the double-quick to the north end of the battlefield to support the left flank of the heavily engaged 4th Corps. On May 15th, at 2:00 p.m., advanced with the brigade upon the enemy works at this location and encountered fierce resistance. took heavy musket and cannon fire while exposed on the ridge to the rear, held off the enemy counter-attacks and drove them back to their works. At daybreak on May 16th, three companies of the regiment advanced across this field to find the enemy works abandoned. pursued the enemy to Cassville, Georgia.
