1. Tri-State Mining District Rock Drill Marker
Inscription.  This steam powered rock drill was an integral tool of the Tri-State Mining District. The only way to access the ore was by drilling into the tough limestone, chert and dolomite walls. Drill bits punctured holes into the walls to provide the needed space to insert explosives. The explosives blew up the walls of rock, lead and zinc into smaller chunks so that the material could be scooped up and placed in the ore buckets.
