1. The Peacock Hotel Marker

Inscription. The Peacock Hotel was built in 1890 by Captain Caleb Peacock, a veteran of the War Between the States. Captain Peacock and his wife, Louise, had five children: Harry, Darcy, Julia, Aldine, and Grace. The hotel remained in the family for 56 years until it was sold, in 1946, by Mrs. Grace Peacock Cheney, to Harry Collins, R. C. Brooks, and W. H. VanLandingham. Frequented by drummers and salesmen who traveled by rail, the Peacock was known for the delicious meals served. The original second floor porch was removed at some point. The Peacock was demolished in 1958, a year after the Schley County Centennial. It was sometimes called the "Peacock House". It was located on Oglethorpe Street in front of the present Piggly Wiggly. Commissioned by Imogene Owen McLendon, who was related to the Peacocks of the hotel.

1. Artist who painted the History Wall in Ellaville
I painted the Wall and originally had painted texts on each painting - but when they faded we put up the metal markers - which were much more permanent. Unfortunately the end of the wall came down in a storm a few years ago -
