Inscription. This cabin was the home of Revolutionary War captain Abraham Louis DeMoss, wife Hannah, and their nine children after he bought land near here in 1800. DeMoss named his home Belle Vue, French for “beautiful view” which became the name of this entire area. For almost 200 years the cabin stood atop a ridge on the west side of Morton Mill Road until donated to Bellevue Harpeth Historic Association by the family of DeMoss descendants, Frank Hartwell and Dolores (Dolly) Hutchison Carter.

Captain De Moss is buried in the Old DeMoss Cemetery which is south of Todd Pries Drive near the Harpeth River.
