2. Wells Family Genealogy. Gardner Wells, Jr.; (B) 1800 (D) 1868; namesake for Village of Wellsville, NY in 1832. He was the largest land owner. His son, Sewell Wells, (B) 5/23/1828 (D) 8/25/1893, was a Civil War Veteran, 189th Regiment, NY Infantry, and was with General Ulysses S. Grant when General Robert E.
