Mount Cheaha is Alabama's highest point at 2,407 feet above sea level and is part of the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. At first glance, a mountain is a symbol of strength and endurance. A deeper look reveals them as symbols of transition and change.
The earth's crust and upper mantle is divided into moving tectonic plates. The Appalachian Mountains and Mount Cheaha were formed when the African plate crashed into the North American plate. At one point, the Cheaha mountain range was twice as tall as Mount Everest (which is 29,029 feet). The mountain range was slowly worn down by water and wind. Minerals and dirt eroded and settled in the valleys to create rich farm land. As you climb to Alabama's highest point, enjoy a breathtaking and timeless scenic view.
