"The Count” is one of three players in history to homer in his first at-bat, then become the winning pitcher (Dodger Stadium, September 3, 1974). He holds San Francisco Giants Rookie Pitcher marks for Wins (15) and Strikeouts (215) in 1975. NL leader in Shutouts (6) in 1976, he pitched 9-0 no-hitter vs. Braves (Atlanta Stadium, September 29, 1976).

He played as a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1974 to 1986, most notably as a member of the San Francisco Giants with whom he won the National League Rookie of the Year Award and pitched a no-hitter. He also played for the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, and the New York Yankees."
