Inscription.
1884 “Gainesville, Rocky Point & Micanopy Railway” chartered

1895 RR company sold to L.L. Hill, renamed “The Gainesville and Gulf Railway Company”; construction began in July. Later in 1895 the RR from Gainesville to Micanopy opened (12 miles)

-1899 RR Extended south to Fairfield, north to Sampson City (48 miles) connecting to Georgia South Florida RR Company stock: 3 locomotives, 2 passenger-, 1 baggage- and 14 freight cars

Named changed to “The Tampa and Jacksonville RR” or “T & J”, called "Tug and Jerk” in Micanopy

Latest name: “The Jacksonville and Gulf Railway” Operated as a freight line by “Seaboard Air Line Railway”

1943 RR abandoned except for a few miles used by “The Atlantic Coastline” to bypass Gainesville

The rails on display here were part of the Tampa and Jacksonville Railroad the T&J that ran from Gainesville to Micanopy.
These rails were recently found north of Micanopy where the track began its curve to the west as it entered Micanopy Town.
