Glikbarg Building. . Built in 1907 after the April 18, 1906 earthquake destroyed much of the Salinas downtown core. This building was constructed to house the Salinas City Bank which was in need of a new home after the disaster. It was designed by William Henry Weeks and commissioned by the founder of the bank, J.H. McDougall. The original vault survived the quake and was transferred about 20 feet to the new site. This incredibly detailed edifice sprang up around it. The vault dates to the bank’s founding in 1873. At the time of this dedication it houses Dubbers Restaurant and Bar which is named after the former building owner, Harold “Dubber” Saunders, and a naval aviator during World War II.
