West End in Boston in Suffolk County, Massachusetts — The American Northeast (New England)
Converse
In 1630, Deacon Edward Converse became the first of his lineage to come to America from England, settling in Charlestown, MA. He established the first ferry between Charlestown and Boston, known as the “Great Ferry”. This historic passenger ship docked in Boston Harbor where this pier, Lovejoy Wharf, resides today. In 1908, his descendant, Marquis Mills Converse, founded the Converse Rubber Shoe Company and solidified his standing in the Boston rubber shoe industry. This building and the people who work here continue the remarkable relationship between Lovejoy Wharf, the City of Boston and the Converse name.
