Inscription.
Former major league baseball pitcher Robert "Bob" Turley was a native of Troy, Illinois. He was born in 1930.

He was signed by the St. Louis Browns in 1948 by owner Bill DeWitt.

After minor league action, two seasons with the Browns, service in Korea and a move to Baltimore - Bob was traded to the New York Yankees, where he won the 1958 Cy Young Award and was named the World Series MVP.

Turley retired to found the insurance company that would become Primerica Financial Services.

He was nicknamed "Bullet Bob" for his 98mph fastball.
