Goodyear Camp Ground. . This area was not always as peaceful as it is now. The Jackson County Historical Society has accurately located the former sites of more than forty saw mills in this county. Six hundred people lived around the Goodyear saw mill which was located here on a rail-road which ran from Mather to Saddle mound. More than one hundred thousand board feet of lumber could be sawed each day. A spur rail-road ran south west from Lapham junction to McKenna and Zeda. Many wooden railed tram-ways radiated out from these three saw mills. The last of the big white pines, many of them six feet in diameter, were cut on section 17 where Ben Potter built his cranberry marsh two miles west of here. , For more information see the Historical Marker on scenic Bell Mound.
