McCracken-Fetzer-McKinley Building
1868
Historic Brookville
Distinctive for its belvedere at the peak of the hip roof, this structure was built by hotelier John McCracken (1813-1891), whose Union Hotel remains across White Street to the West. The earliest surviving public performance hall in Brookville, McCracken's Hall, is on the third floor, and saw theatrical and musical performances as well as religious events. McCracken's son-in-law, W.K. Fetzer (1854-1919) later owned the building and operated a hardware store. There were originally two storefronts on the first floor and a porch on the second. Main Street's last plank sidewalk was removed from here in 1927.
In 1972 the building was purchased by Dr. Wm. Mark McKinley. His extensive remodeling efforts give the building the appearance it has today. The 1868 center hall and balustrade is unaltered. Original woodwork is found throughout the building.
