Rail City, also, La ville ferroviaire. . The Central Vermont Railroad was founded by John Smith with the first trains arriving in St. Albans in 1850. The original station was replaced in 1866-7 by this structure designed and built by William Howe. The shed was 88 feet wide and covered 30,000 square feet. At one time 23 tracks crossed Lake Street giving St. Albans the moniker “Rail City”. The general offices of the Central Vermont Railroad were housed here as well. The tower was removed between 1915-1923, and the shed was razed in 1963 by the owner, the Canadian National Railroad. , La société ferroviaire du Vermont fut fondée par John Smith et les premiers trains arrivèrent à St-Albans en 1850. Les 23 voies de chemin de fer qui croiaient la rue Lake imposèrent le surnom de ville ferroviaira à St-Albans. Les bureau administratifs de la société étaient sous son toit. La tour fût démolit entre 1915 et 1923 et le hangar fût rasé en 1963 par les propriétaired de l’époque: la compagnie des chemins de fer nationaux du Canada. .
