Inscription. Dr. Mark Rodgers was a local merchant-physician who built this Italianate commercial building to house his business, which in 1878 was described in the newspaper as "the finest store, with the best light and ventilation in town." From 1902-1929, the space was occupied by James Canning's General Store. The polished granite storefronts were installed near the time of the 1933 arrival of Murphy's Five and Ten.

The present owner, Dr. Wm. Mark McKinley, appropriately restored the upper floor for offices and apartment use. Original woodwork including doors, casings and dado were preserved.
