Eikerenkotter House
"The Grand Walk"
In 1902, this Queen Anne-style house was built by Julius Eikerenkotter, owner of the first general merchandise store in this city. He came to South San Francisco with his wife, Alice, and three daughters in 1893, and opened his store in the brand new Merriam Block Building at the entrance of Grand Avenue. He later opened an ice cream shop at the corner of Grand and Linden Avenues. Mr. Eikerenkotter was active in the community, serving as a School Board Trustee, as well as two terms as a San Mateo County Supervisor. Alice Taylor Eikerenkotter was a founding member of the South San Francisco Women's Club. The family's carriage house was around the corner at 511 Miller Avenue.
