Inscription. A darkness hung over the county when our manufacturing heart was torn from us. County population continued to decline as more of our youthful citizens were forced to leave the area in order to find jobs. Although recovery began slowly and painfully, our hardy breed of Beaver Countians began to re-invent the job scene from the ashes of a manufacturing economy to a more service-oriented one.

Transition to the digital age has seen the establishment of innovative cyber and charter schools, as well as faster and more secure communications, helped along by the extensive use of the internet streamed to us through cable and telephone modernization. The county and the world have become smaller places.

This is a story that is still being written each and every day As we look forward to a brighter future, we carry the lessons of the past with us in the hopes that each succeeding generation is better off than the last. Although we are "divided by our rivers,” we will always be "united by our people."

AUGUST 1987 McDermott International Corporation announced the pending closing of its B&W plants in Beaver Falls, Koppel and Ambridge.

1987/1988 Archaeological excavation at the Standard Slag Company in Georgetown discovered there sites covering the time between 6300B.CE to 1600CE with oc than 14,000 artifacts recovered.
