1. Swivel End-Dump Car Marker
Inscription.

This swivel end-dump car has a 1-1/2 ton capacity of ore. It could be handled by a single person and dumped by hand.

These small, swivel end-dump cars were most commonly called "one-ton cars," yet they came in a number of sizes ranging from one-to two-ton capacity. The box portion sat on a turntable that allowed it to swing to either side while the wheels remained stationary on the track. The dump hinge was positioned relative to the cart's center of gravity allowing a loaded car to be easily dumped by one person when the locking device was released.

The swivel end-dump car was replaced by the large capacity mining cars that are used today. These cars can carry from three to twelve tons of ore and are mechanically dumped to one side.
