Inscription. Founded in 1780, the Town of Lyndon was home to 59 residents at the time of the 1790 census. In June 1791 the inhabitants and freeholders were invited to the first town meeting, held here at the home of Daniel Reniff.

On July 4, Elder Philemon Hines moderated the inaugural community meeting, with Daniel Cahoon selected as town clerk. Reniff, Cahoon, and James Spooner were elected as selectmen and listers. Voters chose Nehemiah Tucker as treasurer and Nathan Hines as constable/collector. Surveyors were picked to record the boundaries of the town’s six districts, which were set by the selectmen.

Town meetings were held at Reniff’s until March 7, 1796, with subsequent meetings at the dwelling of Nathaniel Jenks.
