1. Revolutionary War (1776-1783) Marker
Inscription. During the period of the American Revolution, Florida was occupied by the British and was a Loyalist colony during the war. The colony raised a regiment of East Florida Rangers consisting of nine companies, at least one of which was entirely composed of local Black men. The Rangers fought in several battles throughout the war, none of which they lost, and helped the British to occupy east Georgia until the war’s end.
