… Oakland Presbyterian Church is the oldest surviving church in the Town of Oakland, Tennessee, which was founded in 1830. Dr. James Hunter from Guilford County, North Carolina, (one of the centers of Scotch-Irish settlements in Colonial America) came to Fayette County in 1827 with his father and two brothers and settled in the area where Oakland came to be. He, more than any other person, is credited with the founding of Oakland. …
