A Familiar Vista
Horsebarn Hill has been a familiar landmark since the University's founding in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School. It has offered successive generations of students a breathtaking view of the changing campus landscape as well as a picturesque snapshot of the Eastern Connecticut countryside. To the south is Valentine Meadow, part of the original Storrs family homestead, and stomping grounds for University horses. At the north end of Horsebarn Hill Road is the Jacobson Barn, acquired in 1918 from a local family as the young campus was expanding beyond its original 170 acres. Also nearby is the UConn Dairy Bar, a popular destination for the University community and visitors to the campus.
