Cumberland Township near Carmichaels in Greene County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Honorary Emblem
This emblem was donated in honor of Cpl John W Dodds a member of the 3838 QM (GS) company who was killed in 1944 during WW II.
His sister Anne Mae Dodds Lutes saw him when he left for boot camp after which he went straight over seas without seeing his family.
Mr Dodds was married with three children. Upon his death it took over a year to have his remains returned to the United States.
His brother in law known locally as "Fiddler Jim" from Jefferson, Pa was a barber and a coal miner with Poland Mines. Some WW I veterans and fellow miners made this emblem out of inch plate steel and donated it to the Carmichaels V.F.W. Post 3491.
The veterans performed a military rites service and with this his sister Anne finally received her long deserved closure to her brother's death.
The emblem was repainted by Terry Martin of Dunbar, Pa. and was re-dedicated by Skip Black at the V.F.W.s. 100th anniversery in September 1999.
Erected 1999 by Carmichaels V.F.W. Post 3491.
