In the early 1940s, the Board of Public Utilities (later Athens Utilities Board) began purchasing this property and that immediately behind it on Jackson for its offices.
In the early 1960s, the City of Athens purchased and renovated the buildings for use as city offices, the fire hall, and the police department. In 1963, the Athens Fire Department moved into this facility on N. White Street.
In 1973, the property was sold and city hall, the fire department, and the police department moved to the new Municipal Building on N. Jackson.
