More about this marker. This marker replaced a New York State marker that was went missing in the spring of 2020. This pole and replacement marker were installed in the summer of 2021. The William G. Pomeroy Foundation provided a grant to pay for the marker.
Regarding Major John Andr้. John Andr้ was a major in the British Army and head of its Secret Service in America during the American Revolutionary War. He was hanged as a spy by the Continental Army for assisting Benedict Arnold's attempted surrender of the fort at West Point, New York, to the British. The marker references the site of the hanging at which there is a small monument.
