A rare example of Northern Italian Renaissance Revival architecture applied to a high-rise structure and the city's first building to use a pronounced setback and towers, as encouraged by new municipal zoning laws, it was built by the Allerton House Company, a national chain of "club hotels," and was the home for many years of the Tip-Top-Tap cocktail lounge, where Don McNell hosted his popular "Breakfast Club" radio show.
