New York theatrical producers Sam Harris and Archie and Edgar Selwyn constructed these buildings for live stage shows. The "Twin Theaters" have terra-cotta facades similar in overall form, but subtly different in details. The Harris is ornamented with Italian Renaissance decoration; the Selwyn has English Neoclassical motifs. Among the actors who originally performed here are: Ethel Barrymore, Helen Hayes, Charles Laughton, Boris Karloff and Mae West.
