1784-1838 Assistant chief manager of the Russian American colonies and manager at Novoarkhangel'sk between 1817 and 1832:
"The Novoarkhangel'sk fortress; consisting of three towers and a battery of 30 cannons and a two-storied building which is used by the chief manager, is located on a kekur. This formation consists of native rock, rising 77 feet above water, topped by a flat area Below the manager's housing there are the barracks which accommodate 40 workers. Below this on the rocky slope there are warehouses, barracks and other quarters. These form the middle fortress."
