Ballard Livery & Transfer
Ballard Avenue Landmark District
Considered one of the largest moving companies in the area, Ballard Livery and Transfer was established on Leary Avenue in 1904. Its office was moved to this location in 1907, when B.J. Cooney took over the business. A year later the Boyd Brothers became the proprietors and remained here until 1918. During the early years, Ballard Livery and Transfer had a crew of twenty movers and ten horse-drawn carriages available to meet the area's heavy hauling needs. Their warehouse was located on Shilshole Avenue. This building was also briefly home to The Ballard Record, a local newspaper edited by Charles D. Ulmer. In 1982 the building was meticulously restored by its owners.
