Inscription.
This hotel was constructed in 1855, and had several owners before being acquired in 1898 by Julius Dobler, who immigrated to the U.S. from Germany. With its prime location across the street from the Courthouse and other government offices, the hotel was successful for many years. In 1902 Mr. Dobler expanded the building to accommodate more customers.

In 1898, Staten Island became part of New York City, and in the following decades government offices and courthouse functions were gradually relocated to St. George, in the northern part of Staten Island. As a result, Mr. Dobler's business declined, and the hotel closed around 1926. In the 1930s, a bar named Wally's Inn operated in the former hotel. The building was demolished ca. 1942.
