This residence stands upon the northern part of a 717 acre plantation granted in 1799 to Green Hill, Revolutionary War Colonel, philanthropist, and Methodist preacher. His daughter, Lucy Hicks Hill, married Joshua Cannon, also a Revolutionary War veteran, Methodist preacher and outstanding citizen. Cannon family descendants include Henry Cannon, husband /manager of "Minnie Pearl".
In 1951 this residence became the home of noted Tennessean editor, Edward D. Ball, honored for bravery under hazardous combat conditions, being the first American newsman to cross the Rhine River with General George Patton.
