1. White Mound Marker
Inscription. About one mile to the southeast is the site of White Mound. This village consisted of a general store and post office, cheese factory, blacksmith shop, saloon, and dance hall. The post office was in existence from 1859 to 1919. Before granting this service, the federal government said that the settlers had to demonstrate a need for it. They did so by going to Spring Green once a week for a year at their expense to obtain their mail. White Mound became a station on several stagecoach lines, notably the Spring Green - Reedsburg line.

Erected 1971 by Sauk County Conservation Committee. (Marker Number 5.)
