1. History in the Park Marker
Inscription. In 1871, "Coffee King" John Arbuckle opened a factory on John Street between Jay and Adams Streets. By 1906, the factory roasted about 25 million pounds of Brazilian coffee every month. Arbuckle became a multimillionaire by producing the first national brand of packaged coffee.
