Highland Camrose Bungalow Village
Highland Camrose Bungalow Village is a unique example of working class housing in Hollywood during the early 20th century. It was developed between 1900 and 1924 during rapid growth in the Hollywood film industry. The original fourteen California bungalow homes, designed by the Taylor Brothers and Lee Campbell, were connected by a series of secluded stairs and walkways.
The architectural style of these structures, known as Craftsman bungalows, reflect a lifestyle that includes harmony with nature, restfulness, and simplicity. These homes were constructed to be durable and simple, yet comfortable and charming. In the early 1990's, a number of the structures were removed to create the picnic area and the remaining structures were rehabilitated to create office space.
Highland Camrose Bungalow Village is the only known example of an authentic Craftsman bungalow hillside cluster development in California. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as an historic district.
